ESP8266 Wiif Module Setup

Robo India presents tutorial how to setup ESP8266 wifi module. Hardware configuration to run ESP 8266 wifi module is explained in this tutorial.

Detailed Tutorial

1. Introduction:

ESP8266 wifi module is a development board that can run on AT command or LUA programs. It has got general input output. It can work in three modes.

1. As an access point - It will serve as router to the clients, it will be visible to the list of available wifi in the wifi range.

2. As an station - It can connect it self to other access point in this mode.

3. Combination of station and access point.

2. Pinout

ESP8266 has got several models. Firmware are same in these models thus it behaves in the same way for all models available.

You will need a logic converter to convert logic between 3.3V and 5V. Tutorial on logic level converter is available here.

 3. Connection for setup ESP 8266

Make the connections as shown in below image.

 VCC - 3.3V

Switch connected to RST pin is Reset Switch the other switch connected to GIPO0 is Flash Switch. Flash switch is used to enter into flash mode.

Note: for the eight pin ESP8266, all of the connections are to made as shown in above diagram, in that model CH_PD means EN pin. GIPO15 pin is not there in that model thus it is not to be connected.
