Robo India in this tutorial explains how to use multimeter with illustrated diagrams.
1. Multimeter:
2. Test leads ( Red and Black):
3. A complete Multimeter:
4. DC Voltage Measurement:
4.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
4.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
4.3 Connect test leads across the source or load being measured.
4.4 Read voltage value on the LCD display along with the polarity of the red test lead.
5. AC Voltage Measurement:
5.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
5.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
5.3 Connect test leads across the source or load being measured.
5.4 Read voltage value on the LCD display.
6. Resistance measurement:
6.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
6.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
6.3 Connect test leads across the resistor being measured.
6.4 Read the resistor value on LCD.
6.5 Caution: if resistance being measured is connected to a circuit, turn off power and discharge all capacitors before connecting test leads.
7. Audible Continuity Test:
7.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
7.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
7.3 Connect test leads across the points where continuity is being tested.
7.4 If continuity exists buzzer will sound Beep.
8. Diode Test:
8.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
8.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
8.3 Connect red test lead to the anode of the diode to be tested and the black test lead to the cathode of the diode.
8.4 The approx forward voltage drop of the diode will be displayed on the LCD. If the test leads are connected in reverse mode than only 1 will be shown on LCD.
9. DC Current Measurement:
9.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
9.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
9.3 Open the circuit where current is to be measured and connect the test leads in series with the circuit.
9.4 Read the current value on LCD along with the polarity of Red test lead.
10. DC Current Measurement(Up to 10 A):
10.1. Connect test leads as shown in the picture.
10.2 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
10.3 Open the circuit where current is to be measured and connect the test leads in series with the circuit.
10.4 Read the current value on LCD along with the polarity of Red test lead.
11. Transistor hFE Test:
11.1 Set rotary switch to the position as shown in the picture.
11.2 Insert the transistor in appropriate socket of NPN or PNP transistor. Legs of transistor are to be inserted in proper hole of Emitter, Base and Collector.
11.3 Read the approximate hFE value on LCD at the test condition of base current 10uA and Vce 3V.
